Excursion to Punta de n’Amer: an historical tour on the beachfront

Excursions in Majorca will hook you from the very beginning. The incredible coastal landscapes and charming hills, caves and mountains are part of the island’s alternative side; the side that stands out in its own way; the side that not everyone has the privilege of discovering. One of these wonders is undoubtedly the gorgeous route that runs until Punta de n’Amer. This route lasts for two hours, is very accessible and boasts natural beauty that is perfect for discovering the most authentic side of this Mediterranean destination.

Located in an idyllic coastal zone, this beautiful natural area was declared a Natural Area of Special Interest (ANEI) in 1985 and is famous for its wide range of flora and fauna, in addition to its cultural value. Punta de n’Amer boasts endless history, such as: its defense towers and bunkers left behind after the Spanish civil war, found only a few metres away from the beach.

There are many places from which you can set out on an excursion. One of the most recommended is that which starts nearby our hotels in Sa Coma, where the crystal-clear water of the Mediterranean Sea and the beautiful eastern coast of Majorca will take your breath away as you walk through this beautiful natural zone. Along the way, you will be able to stop and cool down in the natural pools formed between the sea and the rocks whilst admiring the dunes, garrigues, pine trees, rocks and archaeological ruins from 1500 bc.

Halfway through, you will discover one of the largest remains of the 17th century. Es Castellet is an old but very well-conserved defense tower which was used to spy on enemies arriving to the coast by boat. You can explore all of this and even use it as a lookout to admire the beautiful zone. There is also a bar located close by where you can rest up and enjoy a snack before discovering the rest of this gorgeous area.

If you carry on this coastal route you will discover some of Majorca’s most hidden coves where you will be able to swim in a peaceful atmosphere. If you want to prolong the excursion, you can carry on discovering the Ses Crestes and Sa Cova dels Coloms caves, which are two natural formations in which people from the Talayotic period lived. You will find lots of handcrafted ceramic items here. This is one of the best ways to discover the history of Majorca whilst being encased in the unique charm of the Mediterranean.

  • Majorca features today 14 of the most beautiful lighthouses of Europe. Some of them, the oldest in the world, are still showing the harbour’s entrance to the sailors of the XXist century
