Located in Cala Bona, the Son Floriana Solar Park is a collective self-consumption facility designed to generate clean, renewable energy and supply several establishments within our hotel group. Thanks to this infrastructure, we are taking another important step towards reducing our environmental footprint and promoting a more responsible model of tourism.
Since 2010, we have maintained a strong environmental policy that has continued to evolve and strengthen, enabling all our hotels to operate using renewable energy. Our goal is to leave a positive legacy by respecting the local environment, its people, traditions and culture, while investing year after year in new facilities and technologies to reduce water and energy consumption, as well as waste generation.
Several years ago, we began installing photovoltaic parks with the aim of producing locally generated renewable electricity. This allows us to minimise the environmental impact associated with energy consumption while reducing our dependence on the conventional electricity grid.
The installation consists of 2,370 high-efficiency solar panels covering an area equivalent to more than one and a half football pitches. Together, they generate 1,320 kW of power, enough to meet the approximate energy demand of 1,300 homes.
Thanks to this facility, we are able to provide 100% renewable electricity to several hotels within the group, including Protur Bonaire Aparthotel, Protur Floriana Resort, Protur Bahía Azul Apartments and Restaurant Son Floriana.
This project is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 860 tonnes each year, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of more than 600 homes or the amount of carbon that around 40,000 trees would absorb.
The solar park is also home to a flock of sheep, which naturally maintain the land by grazing, eliminating the need for machinery and chemical products while supporting a more sustainable land management model.
