What do we need to be happy? Health, love, challenges, adventures… Most of the time we forget that a healthy lifestyle is the way to achieve fulfilment in life. Feeling good both inside and out is the first step towards happiness. It gives us tonnes of energy and makes us feel like we are capable of just about anything. A Protur Hotels we want to promote good lifestyle choice-making amongst our employees.

We are all part of one big family and, as such, we take care of one another. With this being said, we have developed a partnership with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), Your Health Comes First, which provides tips on how to lead a healthier lifestyle. We focus on basic aspects like nutrition, physical health and avoiding harmful products like cigarettes and alcohol. All in all, shedding light on these aspects brings about positive benefits for our health.

With the aim of providing our employees with useful information on how to improve their habits, we offer courses on tobacco detoxing, illness prevention, and maintaining good habits for leading a healthier lifestyle. With this being said, and following the AECC guidelines, here are the basic four points we should practice.

  • Practice sport. The World Health Organisation recommends 150 minutes of exercise a week. This means that we can go on hikes or play sports like football or basketball for two and half hours. Another way to achieve this time is by practicing other activities, such as: running, walking, swimming or going to the gym, for 30 minutes, 5 days a week.
  • Do not smoke. Forget about smoking. This is one of the most harmful things ever for your health. The most common side effects are pulmonary emphysema, cancer and illness’ regarded your blood vessels, among others. There are many existing techniques and therapies to help you quit smoking. It is also shown that, within ten years of not smoking, your lungs return to their normal, healthy state.
  • Eat fruit and vegetables. We are what we eat. Follow a diet based on eating 5 pieces of fruit a day, vegetables and fish, and decrease the amount of red & processed meat you consume. This is guaranteed to make you feel better.
  • Moderate your alcohol consumption. This does not mean we cannot have a glass of wine or a half pint of beer from time to time. However, consuming large quantities of alcohol can cause liver, coronary and behavioural problems. For this reason, it is important not to abuse alcohol and to consume it in small quantities.

Following these simple tips can improve your health and help you feel better and more energised. Our health should be our priority; it is the most important thing in life. To look after our wellbeing the way it deserves, we first have to invest in ourselves.
