5 Christmas fairs to visit in Palma

Lights, colours, excitement… a few of the key aspects that gives Majorca its unique special charm during the Christmas period. A happy and festive spirit fills every corner of the island making it an ideal destination to visit during this time of year. It’s not just the festive atmosphere and warmth you can find in abundance in the towns and the capital, but also a plethora of activities to enjoy with your loved ones.

One of the most anticipated events of the year for the Majorcan population is the arrival of the Christmas Markets which are organised all over the island. Even though practically every town in Majorca will host their own fair, the ones found in the capital are the most prestigious. At Protur Hotels, we want you to discover the island’s Christmas spirit so if you are thinking about travelling to Majorca during Christmas, these are some of the fairs that you must explore during your visit to Palma.

    • Las Ramblas Market. Just imagine yourself strolling through the illustrious Las Ramblas in Palma, a beautiful street surrounded by trees draped in Christmas lights where every year a charming market arises with typical hand crafted goods from the island and other parts of Spain. Products including silver jewellery, decorations, paintings, old photos and accessories. Perfect for stopping by whilst enjoying a walk around Palma city centre.
  • Plaza de España. The epicentre of the capital. Plaza de España is the go-to meeting point for the local people, and one of the busiest squares in Palma. The Christmas market here showcases predominantly typical Spanish and Majorcan products with a special mention to the cold meats, cheeses and handmade winter clothing.
  • Pueblo Español. An incredible open air museum which represents the main characteristics and features of Spanish towns. This venue hosts numerous events throughout the year, of which you can find one of the sweetest Christmas markets on the island. Candy floss, chocolates, jelly sweets, tapas and other gastronomic delicacies. Sounds delicious right?
  • Rata Market. An alternative market that takes place in the old fireman park (parque de bomberos) in Palma. It features an array of artists that showcase their paintings, books and handmade products. The markets are complemented by food trucks, drinks and live music.
  • Nativity Exhibition. A great way to finish our route of Christmas markets is to stop off at the stunning Plaza de Corts (the square where the town hall is located) in order to appreciate the magnificent Nativity exhibitions that have been produced by some of Majorca’s most renowned craftsmen and women.
