REPRESENTATIVES FROM ELEVEN OF THE AUTONOMOUS REGIONS ARE VYING FOR THE COVETED ‘BIG SPOON’.

THE NATIONAL COOKING COMPETITION THAT FOR FOUR DAYS MAKES THE ISLAND OF MAJORCA THE PLACE TO BE AND HAS PRIDE OF PLACE ON THE CALENDAR OF THE COUNTRY’S BEST COOKING SCHOOLS

Palma de Mallorca, February 21st 2018,

After its successful first edition, the National Cookery Competition ‘Protur Chef’ has now become a ’date not to be missed’ in the calendar of the most prestigious cookery schools at a national level; representatives from eleven autonomous communities have requested to take part in this second edition.

On March 15th, 16th, 17th & 18th , Sa Coma, Balearic Islands, will become, for a few days, the gastronomy capital of the country. From among all the applicants, the competition’s technical staff will select 18 participants based on specific criteria; quality & presentation among others.

The competition is aimed at cookery school students who are in at least their 2nd year. Taking part is completely free and the three finalists are offered a paid internship with Protur Hotels, a cash prize and a free week’s stay for 2 people. The previous edition was won by a student from the Hotel School of Sant Pol de Mar.

This year among the 18 students selected we have particpants from the Basque Culinay Centre, the prestigeous Hotel escuela de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Escuela d´hostelería y turismo Master D de valencia , Madrid & Mallorca, IES de Menorca, CIFP de Pontevedra, ESHAEX-SEXPE de Badajoz, Escola d´hosteleria de les Illes Balears and ESHOB de Barcelona. We have had double the number of requests to take part from last year to this, thus consolidating this event as a calendar must for some of the best cooking schools in the country. The chosen product this year is shoulder of Majorcan lamb.

The competition will be conducted by our own prestigious chef Tomeu Caldentey, the first Majorcan chef to be awarded a Michelin star at his restaurant Es Molí den Bou.

Mr Caldentey has revealed that the competition will once again enjoy the invaluable collaboration of a prestigious jury, with well known chefs and Michelin stars as well as important food critics.

For four full days at the Protur Biomar Gran Hotel & Spa***** in Sa Coma, Mallorca, we will be offering a varied programme of workshops, chats and activities that we are sure will delight and excite and is a date not to be missed by all gastronomy lovers
